Old Country with Jack Hargreaves.
Talk to me.

Seriously considering taking a week off, getting a dog, walking stick, leave my mobile behind and just explore the wonders of our great country.

Re: Old Country with Jack Hargreaves.
It's going back a number of years now but I remember driving along with the car radio tuned to a national station when the name Jack Hargreaves was mentioned.
One of the presenters said "I have a story about Jack Hargreaves"
His colleague cut him off very quickly saying "yes that's the one you really should save for the very last few minutes of the very last broadcast you ever do".
Not a hint of what the story might be since.

OUT OF TOWN From the film "
Charley Moon" (1956 (
Will, The countryside is still The only place where I
Could settle down Troubles there are so much rarer Out of town
Spring starts to spring The cuckoo starts to sing A song to take the
Edge off winter's frown And spring cleaning has a meaning Out of town
Up there the sun is a big yellow duster Polishing the blue,
Blue sky With white fluffy clouds in
A cluster Hanging on a breeze to dry
Trees everywhere With blossoms in their hair And Mother Nature
Wears her newest gown What I'd give
Once more to live Right out of town.

Chim - are you mad??

I loved growing up in the 70s. Less traffic in the streets, parents far less paranoid than we are today, meaning we had so much freedom to wander, lethal adjustable metal roller skates, space hoppers, making go-carts from junk in your dad's shed, watching the future father of my children doing an 'Evil Knieval' on someone else's bike over the stream in the park, misjudging it and taking a header into the bank. Marvellous stuff. There were so many paedos operating with seemingly impunity, because parents were naive about all that till Esther Rantzen put them straight. But I could run fast, so the Percy Perverts never diddled me. Best time to be a kid.

You should try reading daveyg, you might learn something.

Beano might be a bit too advanced for you though.

I think our families viewing on a Sunday evening was Out of Town, Return of the Saint, All Creatures Great and Small and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy..... Thankfully mum and dad weren't the Songs of Praise type - and I was allowed to watch Starsky & Hutch on Friday!

Re: Old Country with Jack Hargreaves.
I'm sure that on the Southern TV network it was on Friday evenings?

The 70s were magical, we had imaginations and didn't rely on TV or phones.

Great days.
